Looking at NCES data for 2022 for 25 to 34 year-olds who worked full time year round revealed that higher annual median earnings are positively associated with years of educational preparation across race and ethnicity.
HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE EARNINGS: Asian Americans $51,000, White Americans $45,100, Hispanic $41,200 and Black Americans $37,500
BACHELOR’S DEGREE HOLDERS: Asian $81,400, Whites $70,300, Hispanic $57,100 and Blacks $56,000
MASTER’S DEGREE AND HIGHER: Asian $107,300, Whites $78,700, Blacks, Hispanic $62,300
While it is clear that as education increases so does the earnings potential for all individuals earnings differences among racial-ethnic groups appear largely due to occupational choices. Not all college jobs pay the same.
