Census data reveals of 29.3 million African Americans age 25 and over 3.3 million had attained an Associate Degree, 5.37 million had attained a Bachelor’s Degree, 2.6 million had attained a Master’s Degree, 214 thousand ha attained a Professional Degree (e.g. Law, Medical) and 461,000 has attained a Doctoral Degree. Advanced Degrees accounted for approximately 9 percent of the overall Black adult population over age 25. Additionally, Black students starting in the the degree pipeline in 2024 was approximately 1.4 million or about 7 percent of total college enrollment in Title IV postsecondary Institutions. This percent is hopefully only temporarily suppressed in 2024. It is significantly below Black student enrollment in 2022. Black share of enrollment then was at 12.5 percent. The flattened enrollment appears to be opposite the longer term trend in Black college attendance.
