MRS. MARY BYRDSONG: CHILDCARE PIONEER-ENTREPRENEUR
Mrs. Mary Byrdsong is our Mother’s Day featured role model. A mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mary has had a lifetime dedication to children. Her hard work in the field influenced and inspired her own children and grandchildren to follow her wonderful caring example.Years ago, Mary worked at St. Rita Catholic School in Indianapolis as a teacher. Mrs.Byrdsong later took child development classes offered by indiana University. Mrs. Byrdsong founded and managed “Precious Little People” a State Licensed Daycare in Indianapolis. She was blessed to have her sister, Mrs. Emma B. King as head of Culinary services. Since retirement, Mary has continued her years of service to Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church. (Mary’s Aunt, Letitia Snowden, was a founding member). At Mt. Nebo Mary served as an Usher for 40 plus years and she has directed Culinary services. Though Mary is retired, her love for providing services to children is passed on to her daughters who founded and operate Stepping Stones Childcare Ministry. Kudos to Mrs. Byrdsong for years of service to children.
