Anyonecanachieve.com featured Deontae at the beginning of his college career. We are so pleased that Deontae took time from his busy schedule to provide us with the following inspiring update. Thanks so much Deontae.

“I am about to enter my 4th year at the University of Iowa! I am a sports studies major and I am minoring in communications. I hope to have a role in the media industry after my football days are over. I chose these two because I love being involved with sports regardless of what I am doing. Whether it’s on the field playing or debating on set, I feel like I have the personality to do both at a really high level! I play Defensive Line right now for the Iowa Hawkeyes and I’m hoping to achieve my first starting role this fall. One of the hardest things really is limiting distractions and also paying extra attention to ones mental health. With all the demands it can be easy to get sidetracked and lose focus on the most important things, so being able to reflect and distance yourself from the game every now and then is essential if you want to be as productive as possible. The best way to do so is establishing a routine as well as surrounding yourselves with people who want the same things as you – have your best interest at heart! My biggest role model in sports was and still is Kobe Bryant. I admired the way he navigated the NBA at such a young age and then seamlessly transitioned to off the field life with such grace – it is a blueprint that I want to follow. I also admired his dedication to his family and how he maintained his focus on what was most important.”

Please see the earlier post for Deontae. We sincerely wish him continued success at the University of Iowa on and off the field. This young man’s poise, grace and thoughtful attitude will serve him well. Please see some current photos.
