Dr. Jack Thomas has served on the Martin University faculty for over 25 years.
He is Director of Clinical Development for Martin and has supervised the Practicum & Clinical Internship training of more than 200 Master’s students.He earned his Ph.D. from Indiana University in Clinical Psychology. His academic research was in Learning and Memory. Dr. Thomas completed his Clinical Internship at Hines Veterans Administration Training Hospital (Chicago). He completed rotations there in Neuropsychology, Substance Abuse Treatment, Rehabilitation, Spinal Cord Injury, and General Medical Surgical Consultation.
He has directed licensed professional services in many settings among them, Reception Diagnostic Center (DOC), Fort Wayne State Hospital (DMH), New Castle State Hospital (DMH) where to served on the Executive Board and was Director of Professional (licensed) Services and Education and Training. Dr. Thomas has an independent license as a Clinical Psychologist and is a Certified Health Service Provider in Psychology in the State of Indiana.
Dr. Thomas is a member of the American Psychological Association and past President of the Indiana Association of Black Psychologists. Dr. Thomas received a faculty appointment at Indiana University, Bloomington in Psychology Department. He also served on the faculty at Ball State University and taught in the Counseling Psychology Department. His current academic appointment is at Martin University where he is Director of Clinical Development for the Community Psychology master’s program. At Martin he also previously served as Chair of Psychology Department. He has served on two Hospital Boards, Bloomington Hospital and Wishard Hospital (Now Eskenazi). Dr. Thomas was a member of Wishard’s Midtown Community Mental Health Advisory Board for five years.He was Board President the last two years. Dr.Thomas is a medical advisor to courts (judges) state and federal. He has testified under oath in courts for nearly three decades and is an expert in both adult and child psychiatric disorders.
At Martin, Dr. Thomas has taught: History of Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Psychopathology, Test and Measurements, Black Psychology, and currently Community Psychology, Counseling Ethnic Minorities, Practicum I & II as well Internship I & II. He is responsible for placing practicum and internship graduate students at approved clinical sites and supervising their weekly progress. In 2024, Dr. Thomas was honored by Indiana University Psychology and Brain Sciences Department (PBS). He received the Distinguished Alumni Award, citing his professional career accomplishments, including his founding and development of the college mentoring website, Anyonecanachieve.com.
